Dr. Romano conducts research in several domains using approaches from translational bioinformatics, knowledge engineering, and biomedical data science. His doctoral dissertation focused on drug discovery from animal venoms using data-driven computational methodologies, leading to the discovery of numerous putative therapeutic venom–disease associations for venoms from diverse animal species, several of which are now undergoing experimental validation. As a postdoctoral researcher, his primary goal is to develop and apply new tools that use advanced artificial intelligence methods and publicly available data to discover new associations between toxic environmental exposures and clinically important human diseases.
